Created in 1989 by Maestro Hak-Won Yoon, the Seoul Ladies’ Singers is a professional women’s choir selected through a rigorous audition process whose members range from 20s to early 30s in their age. Their ability to perform variety of genres from popular repertoires to high-level modern choral music has been praised globally.
Currently under the conduct of Professor Eui-Joong Yoon, Seoul Ladies’ Singers is acting as a leading indicator of female choir through novel direction with active choreography and story and creative music.
Seoul Ladies’ Singers won the 2nd place in the European Broadcast Union World Choir Competition in 1992 at Cologne, Germany, and were invited to Vancouver, Canada in 1993 to participate in the 3rd World Choral Symposium. It was also invited as the “big four” of the world choir to perform in ACDA convention in 1995 in Washington Kennedy Center, gaining the reputation as the choir that is more famous overseas.
The active overseas performance continued as the Seoul Ladies’ Singers was invited to go on a Europe tour in 1998. In the same year, the choir was given much more attention from the world when it participated in the World Choral Festival in Taiwan. In 2001, Seoul Ladies’ Singers performed in Singapore as an invitee by the Tokyo Ladies’ Singers and as a representative for Korea in Asia South Pacific Symposium on Choral Music. In 2004 the choir was invited by the World Women’s Choir Festival on a US tour, and it had a performance again in 2008 at Kansas City by the invitation from American Choral Directors Association.
In 2009 Seoul Ladies’ Singers had a successful performance in the title of “The History” on its 20thanniversaryatSeoulArtCenterandwaschosenastheGuroArtValleyArtTheater’sresidentialchoirandturneditselfintoasocialenterprisetoapproachtheaudiencesthroughvariousconcertstothesecond-classcitizensandchildren.
Being a choir which communicates with the audience and striving to improve social welfare, Seoul Ladies’ Singers has become a role-model for all choirs disregard of their purpose of the foundation.
